Beirut, July 7 (UNI) A Hezbollah official was killed on Saturday in an Israeli air strike in the town of Shaath, north of the city of Baalbek in eastern Lebanon, Lebanese military sources told Xinhua.
The sources, who spoke anonymously, said that an Israeli drone fired two air-to-surface missiles at a car in Shaath, killing its driver.
“The dead man was called Maysam Al-Attar, a local Hezbollah official who carried out multiple military missions,” said the sources.
Military sources said on Saturday that Israeli warplanes launched six air strikes on five villages and towns in southern and eastern Lebanon, and bombed seven border towns and villages with about 30 artillery shells.
Meanwhile, Hezbollah targeted several Israeli sites with drones and rockets, including the sites of Ruwaisat Al-Alam and the 403rd Battalion in Beit Hillel, Al-Samaqa, and Zebdine.
Tensions along the Lebanon-Israel border escalated on Oct. 8, 2023, following a barrage of rockets launched by Hezbollah toward Israel in solidarity with Hamas’ attack on Israel the day before. Israel then retaliated by firing heavy artillery toward southeastern Lebanon.
