Hezbollah attacks Israeli military base with swarm of drones

Beirut, Aug 17 (UNI) Hezbollah attacked a military base in northern Israel with a swarm of drones on Friday in response to Israel’s attacks on southern Lebanese villages and towns.

“In response to the Israeli enemy’s attacks on the steadfast southern villages and safe houses, the Islamic Resistance fighters launched an air attack with a squadron of suicide drones on the headquarters of the 188th Brigade’s armored battalions in the Rawya barracks,” Hezbollah’s media office said in a statement.

“The drones targeted the locations where Israeli officers and soldiers were positioned and settled, hitting their targets accurately and inflicting confirmed injuries,” it said, without specifying the number of casualties.

Meanwhile, Lebanese military sources told Xinhua that Israeli drones and warplanes launched seven airstrikes on five border towns and villages on Friday, destroying seven homes and damaging about 20 others.

“The Israeli heavy artillery shelled nine border towns in southern Lebanon with about 30 shells, including 12 phosphorous shells,” the sources said, adding that the phosphorous shells “led to the outbreak of huge fires in southern Lebanon before the civil defense teams could extinguish them.”

Tensions along the Lebanon-Israel border escalated on Oct. 8, 2023, following a barrage of rockets launched by Hezbollah toward Israel in solidarity with Hamas’ attack on Israel the day before. Israel then retaliated by firing heavy artillery toward southeastern Lebanon.
