Heavy rains lash Telangana; Red alert in Kamareddy, Medak

Hyderabad, Aug 28 (UNI) Under the influence of a low-pressure area, heavy to very heavy rains lashed several parts of Telangana from Tuesday night to Wednesday night, severely affecting Kamareddy, Medak and Nirmal districts.
According to official reports, Argonda in Rajampet mandal of Kamareddy district recorded the highest rainfall of 43.1 cm. Other major rainfall figures include 32.3 cm in Akkapur (Nirmal), 30.2 cm in Sardana (Medak), 28.9 cm in Maramaredy town, 27.9 cm each in Bhiknur (Kamareddy) and Vadyal (Nirmal), 27.5 cm in Tadwai (Kamareddy), and 26.6 cm in Nagpur (Medak). Several other areas recorded rainfall between 20 and 25 cm.
The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for Kamareddy and Medak districts. In Kamareddy, overflowing streams and canals inundated crop fields and residential areas, turning them into virtual ponds. Floodwaters submerged the railway tracks on the Kamareddy–Bhiknur route, disrupting train services.
In Kamareddy town, cars were washed away in the deluge, while houses in the Housing Board Colony were inundated, causing severe hardships to residents. Authorities have declared holidays for government and private educational institutions in Kamareddy and Medak districts today.
The Meteorological Department has forecast more heavy rains in Medak and Nirmal districts today. Meanwhile, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy is scheduled to conduct an aerial survey of flood-affected areas to review the situation.
