- Monsoon fury expected in Mandsaur, Neemuch
Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh is bracing for an intense spell of monsoon activity, with the Meteorological Department issuing a red alert for extremely heavy rainfall in the districts of Ujjain, Mandsaur, and Neemuch on Tuesday. This comes as the state continues to experience widespread heavy rains following the onset of the monsoon.
Beyond the red alert zones, an orange alert for heavy rainfall has been declared for several other districts, including Rajgarh, Ratlam, Agar, Guna, Ashoknagar, Chhatarpur, and Sheopur Kalan. Additionally, a strong likelihood of rain is predicted for Indore, Dewas, Mauganj, Satna, Katni, Jabalpur, Narsinghpur, and Bhopal. The Meteorological Department has issued a statewide alert for continuous rainfall until June 25.
Atmospheric conditions fueling monsoon’s intensity
According to weather scientists, the intensified monsoon activity is attributed to several active atmospheric systems. An upper-air cyclonic circulation is currently positioned over the central parts of Southern Uttar Pradesh at an altitude of 5.8 km above mean sea level, tilting southwards with height. Furthermore, a trough extends from this cyclonic circulation to the north-west Bay of Bengal, passing through north-east Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, and northern Odisha, at an altitude of 1.5 km above mean sea level.
Contributing to the conditions are also an active upper-air cyclonic circulation over Saurashtra and Kutch at 3.1 km above mean sea level, and another over the west-central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal, off the north coastal Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha coasts, between 5.8 km and 7.6 km above mean sea level.
