HC orders fresh counselling to fill vacant nursing seats in MP

Bhopal: In a significant relief to thousands of nursing students, the Madhya Pradesh High Court at Jabalpur passed an important order addressing irregularities in nursing education and the admission process in the state. A Division Bench comprising Justice Vivek Rusia and Justice Pradeep Mittal issued directions while hearing a petition filed by NSUI state vice-president Ravi Parmar and others.

During the hearing, counsel for the petitioners, advocate Abhishek Pandey, argued that despite the Supreme Court extending the last date for admissions to nursing courses till December 31, 2025, Post Basic BSc Nursing and MSc Nursing courses were excluded from the counselling process. This, he submitted, was contrary to the apex court’s clear directions that vacant seats in Madhya Pradesh should be filled only through eligible candidates who appeared in the state-level entrance examination and met the Indian Nursing Council’s norms.

The court expressed concern over the large number of vacant seats. As per records placed before it, 66 seats in government and 3,018 in private colleges remain vacant in PB BSc Nursing, while MSc Nursing has 70 vacant seats in government and 1,120 in private institutions.

Taking note of the facts, the High Court directed the Indian Nursing Council to issue immediate formal orders to initiate separate counselling for the vacant seats in PB BSc Nursing and MSc Nursing, ensuring the process is completed by December 31, 2025.

Welcoming the decision, Ravi Parmar termed it a major victory for students, reaffirming NSUI’s commitment to transparent and timely admissions in professional education.
