Hazy skies to linger over Delhi, IMD warns

New Delhi, Oct 29 (UNI) A clear and bright morning today turned into a gloomy afternoon as a hazy veil covered Delhi’s skies, reducing visibility across the city. A day after a team from IIT Kanpur attempted to induce artificial rain, Delhiites waited in vain for showers. Not only did the rain elude the city, but the clouds also dispersed, prompting scientists to cancel Wednesday’s cloud-seeding plans due to unfavourable weather conditions.

The weather department has forecast mist and haze over Delhi for the next five days during the morning hours with partly cloudy skies.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), in the past 24 hours, north-westerly winds prevailed over the capital with wind speeds gusting up to 10 kmph.

The city’s air quality readings also continued to improve, according to the Central Pollution Control Board’s (CBCB) 4 pm AQI bulletin.

Delhi’s AQI on Wednesday dropped from the previous days’ 294 to 279, while maintaining PM 2.5 as the main pollutant in the capital’s air.

Delhi also recorded an appreciable drop in maximum temperature, which settled at 29 degrees Celsius, 2 notches below normal, while the minimum stepped up 2 degrees at 18 degrees Celsius, the Met department noted.
