Haryana: BJP eyes comeback, leads on 50 seats

New Delhi, Oct 8 (UNI) The BJP appeared to be staging a comeback in Haryana to cross the halfway mark in 90-member Assembly with pro-incumbency working for the party which has been in power in the agrarian state for 10 years.

According to the Election Commission data till 11 am, the BJP is leading in 50 seats while the Congress was leading in 34 seats, Independents and others 4, INDL 1on way and BSP 1.

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini and Congress stalwart and former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda are leading from their respective seats. While Hooda is leading by 22,182 votes after four rounds of counting, Saini is leading by 3,070 votes after three rounds of counting.

Indian National Lok Dal’s Abhay Singh Chautala is trailing against Congress’s Bharat Singh Beniwal from Ellenabad, according to the Election Commission. Chautala is trailing by 4,938 votes after three rounds of voting.

Former deputy CM and Jannayak Janta Party candidate Dushyant Chautala was trailing on 6th position, in Uchana Kalan after round 4/16 of counting, as per the latest EC data.

Independent candidate Savitri Jindal is currently leading by a margin of 3,836 votes against Congress’ Ram Niwas Rara in Hisar constituency of Haryana. In 2019, Dr Kamal Gupta of the Bharatiya Janata Party won the seat by defeating Ram Niwas Rara of the Congress.

Haryana Congress chief Udai Bhan is leading from the Hodal Assembly seat in the state, according to Election Commission trends. Bhan was leading by a margin of 1,720 votes from his nearest rival and BJP nominee Harinder Singh.

Voter turnout for the 90-seat Haryana assembly stood at 67.90 per cent. Exit polls predicted a Congress majority, but the BJP remained confident of defying these projections.
