New Delhi, Sept 23 (UNI) The BJP today said that Goods and Services Tax (GST) reforms kicked off on the first day of Navratri have gone in a very positive mood reflecting the festive spirit across the country.
“The GST reforms have received overwhelming positive response nationwide, with everyone benefiting from the new concessions. Both industrial companies and the general public have expressed highly favourable reactions to the changes,” BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra said at a press briefing here.
He said BJP ministers from the Central and state governments reached out to the public and shopkeepers across the country to engage with them on the GST reforms. He said shopkeepers described the tax rejig as the best opening Navratri festival ever. “Customers are also flocking to malls, shops, and showrooms to take advantage of the reduced GST rates,” he added.
The BJP spokesperson thanked the media for accurately communicating the details of the GST reforms to the public. He said, “On Monday, BJP MPs and ministers took to the streets to understand the ground realities of the GST reforms. They spoke with shopkeepers and customers, and I want to share the overwhelmingly positive feedback we have received.”
Patra claimed that there was overwhelming enthusiasm in automobile sector. For instance, he said, Maruti Suzuki has broken a 35-year record, delivering 25,000 cars on the very first day of GST rate reductions. Similarly, Hyundai showrooms have also set a five-year sales record.
According to information received from Hyundai Motor India Limited, they have created a new sales benchmark on the first day itself. Sharing a statement by a Hyundai director, published in newspapers today, the BJP leader said that the auspicious start of Navratri has been exceptional thanks to the next-generation GST reforms.
The BJP spokesperson further said that Tata Motors and other automobile companies are also receiving excellent responses on the very first day of the GST reforms. He noted that large number of customers are visiting showrooms to purchase motorcycles and other vehicles.
Patra also took a dig at opposition parties for picking holes in the new tax system. “Some people are not happy with these reforms, but the government has made efforts for their wellbeing,” he said.
“After the GST rate cuts, prices of medicines for cancer, diabetes, blood pressure, and several other diseases have decreased, directly benefiting patients’ health and their finances,” he added.
