Govt reduces Indigo’s winter slots by 5 pc amid cancellations

NEW DELHI, DECEMBER 9 (UNI) Amid the disruptions in the Indigo flight operations, the centre govenment has ordered a cut by five per cent on the airline’s winter schedule 2025.

According to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation’s notice, Indigo has increased its departures by 9.66 per cent in comparison to Winter Schedule 24 (WS 2024) and by 6.05 per cent in relation to Summer Schedule 25 (SS 2025). However, the airline has not demonstrated an ability to operate these schedules efficiently. Therefore, it is directed to reduce the schedule by 5 per cent across sectors. especially on high-demand, high-frequency flights, and to avoid single-flight operations on a sector by Indigo.

Accordingly, the DGCA has asked the airline to submit a revised schedule by 5 pm on Wednesday, December 10, the order read further.

This order dated December 8, follows the examination conducted by the authority with regard to the Winter schedule 2025 for the airline, amid the wide spread disruptions and large cancellation of schedules.

According to DGCA’s schedule 15,014 departures were approved weekly for IndiGo, which was a total of 64,346 flights approved for November this year.

However, with large number of cancellations, the airline could only operate 59,438 flights in November 2025, with 951 flight cancellations during the month.

Also, as compared to Summer Schedule for the year 2025, the airline was allowed an enhancement of the schedule by 6 per cent with 403 aircraft as against 351 aircraft in SS- 2025, but as per observations, Indigo could operate 339 aircraft in October, and 344 in the month of November.

Tuesday marked the eighth consecutive day of disruptions in IndiGo’s flight operations, that has affected passengers across the country, who are facing delays, missed connections, having to wait for long hours.

The Ministry of Civil Aviation and the DGCA has been constantly monitoring the operations at airports since the unprecedented disruptions began.

Meanwhile, in a video message, Peter Elbers, CEO of IndiGo reassured customers about gradual but steady increase in the schedules by the airlines between December 5 and 9. From 700 schedules operated on December 5, the airline has over 1,800 flight scheduled confirmed for Tuesday. He said that the team is working on “war-footing” to normalise the situation before the timeline set earlier.
