  • 1700 crore rupees can be spent in one month

Kanhaiya Lodhi, Bhopal
On one hand, the Finance Department is constantly being stingy in releasing funds for other departments, on the other hand, it has opened the treasury for the works of Jal Jeevan Mission going on under the Public Health Engineering Department. The Finance Department has given permission to the PHE department to spend Rs 1700 crore for a period of just one month.

Actually, departments cannot spend a large amount without the permission of the Finance Department. The Finance Department already sets the limit of how much amount a department will spend in which month, and if more than that amount is spent, special permission has to be taken from the Finance Department.

Therefore, in this sequence, the Public Health Engineering Department had requested the Finance Department to increase their expenditure limit for the month of October. For this, PHED had given details of the works of Jal Jeevan Mission going on under the department, for which the amount is required to be paid. Accepting this request, the Finance Department has given permission to the PHE department to spend Rs 1700 crore in just a period of one month. The Finance Department has issued orders in this regard.

Work is running late from the scheduled time

Work under Jal Jeevan Mission in the state is running late. According to the set target, tap water was to be made available in all the rural settlements of the state by the year 2024, but this target has not been achieved even in 50 percent of the districts of the state. Burhanpur was the first district, where the work of Jal Jeevan Mission was claimed to be completed, but later here too questions were raised on the works of the mission and in physical verification, tap water was not available in many villages, while questions were also raised on the quality of the works of the mission. The biggest feature of the mission’s work is that underground water is not to be used to provide drinking water in villages. Only surface water is to be used for this.

Plan to provide 70 liters of pure water

Under the Jal Jeevan Mission, 70 liters of pure water is to be provided per person in the rural settlements of the state. This much water is considered sufficient for the needs of one person. Therefore, the state government is engaged in completing the work of this mission on priority. The central government and the state government are contributing fifty-fifty percent of the amount for the work of this mission.
