Golden Temple gets 3rd bomb threat; email sent using fake IDs

Chandigarh, July 16 (UNI) The Golden Temple in Amritsar has received a third bomb threat in as many days, triggering heightened security in and around the holy site. The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) received a threatening email warning of explosions using RDX-filled pipes inside the temple.

Though the exact contents of the message have been withheld due to security concerns, bomb squads and sniffer dogs have been deployed for investigation.

SGPC and Amritsar police are on high alert, with BSF and police commandos stationed at the site. Surveillance has been intensified, and all visitors are being strictly monitored.

According to SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami, a similar threat was received on July 15 from a fake email ID impersonating Kerala’s Chief Minister and a former chief justice. Today’s threat came from an ID under the name ‘Asif Kapoor’ and was also sent to Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann.

This pattern recalls a series of three low-intensity blasts that occurred in the same vicinity in May 2023

Authorities are investigating the source and motive behind the threats, while SGPC has demanded stronger cyber and physical security around the shrine.
