New Delhi, Oct 26 (UNI) In a swift operation, the Customs Department has seized 170 grams of gold from a passenger at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport.
The action was taken against an Indian passenger who arrived from Dubai on Air India flight AI-996. According to sources, the passenger was being discreetly followed by officials right from the flight gate. He was intercepted as he attempted to exit through the Green Channel.
During an X-ray scan of his baggage, a suspicious image prompted a thorough search. The investigation revealed that the passenger had ingeniously hidden a round gold disc, meticulously concealed under the cap of a plastic water bottle. Upon weighing, the gold was found to be approximately 170 grams.
Authorities stated that the passenger’s interrogation is ongoing, and the value of the seized gold is being assessed. Preliminary investigations suggest the case is linked to a gold smuggling racket. The Customs Department has initiated a detailed probe into the matter.
