Gold and Silver Gleam for Dhanteras

  • Bhopal’s Festive Season Sales Surge

Bhopal: Festive cheer has fully returned to Bhopal’s markets ahead of Diwali and Dhanteras. Despite continuously rising gold and silver prices, consumer enthusiasm remains strong, signaling that the traditional urge to buy precious metals is undeterred. Jewellers are delighted by the high foot traffic, demand for new designs, and a noticeable preference for silver idols, coins, and lightweight jewellery this year.

= Pure Silver Demand Hits New Highs

The rush for silver items is especially pronounced. Mukta Dubey, owner of Swarnim Sagar Jewellers in Kolar, confirms steady business even after the price of silver crossed Rs 2 lakh per kilogram. Her 25-year-old shop, which now exclusively deals in pure silver, reports strong sales of idols of Goddess Lakshmi, Kuber, and fish. During Pushya Nakshatra, demand for women’s foot jewellery—specifically anklets and toe rings—was high. To meet demand, she sources machine-made inventory from major hubs like Jaipur and Indore.

= Loyalty Keeps Sarrafa Sales Steady

In the historic Sarrafa Bazar, K.K. Soni of Shiv Shakti Jewellers admits that increasing gold rates have slightly impacted general demand, but his loyal customer base continues to support his business. Offering a wide range of both gold and silver items, Soni sources specialized stock from Delhi, Mathura, and Jaipur to ensure affordability and variety for all income groups. He maintains a clear policy: prices are based on weight, and no exchange is permitted without a bill.

= Gifts and Trendy Coins Spark Interest

At Yash Jewellers in New Ashoka Garden, Rameshwar Prasad Soni (whose family has served customers since 1990) is attracting buyers with complimentary gifts on every Diwali purchase. While Pushya Nakshatra was modest, they anticipate a strong turnout for Dhanteras. Their shop is seeing brisk sales of silver coins priced between Rs 200 and Rs 10,000, along with trending coated silver idols. This blend of gifting, attractive schemes, and the enduring festive excitement ensures that the markets are buzzing, proving that the sparkle of Diwali truly lies in gold and silver.

= Maa Ambe Jewellers, New Ashoka Garden

Tarun Verma, the proprietor of Maa Ambe Jewellers (which opened just three months ago), reports that he started by selling silver jewellery and now also prepares custom-ordered gold jewellery. He notes that foot traffic has increased since Karwa Chauth. Women are particularly favouring lightweight, daily-wear jewellery. The store offers a variety of items, including rings, sindoor dani (vermilion boxes), and silver-coated Ganesh-Lakshmi idols, ranging from Rs 200 to Rs 20,000. To attract customers, he is also running a monthly savings scheme.
