GG-W edge DC-W by 3 runs in thrilling WPL 2026 clash

Vadodara, (UNI) In a nail-biting finish of the Women’s Premier League 2026 at the BCA Stadium here on Tuesday, Gujarat Giants Women held their nerve to beat Delhi Capitals Women by just 3 runs in the 17th match of the season.
Delhi needed 4 runs off the final ball but fell agonizingly short, finishing at 171 for 8 in 20 overs chasing Gujarat’s 174 for 9.
Gujarat batted first and posted a competitive 174 for 9 in their 20 overs. Beth Mooney top-scored with 58 off 46 balls, while Anushka Sharma contributed 39 off 25 deliveries. Shree Charani was the standout for Delhi with four wickets for 31 runs, supported by Chinelle Henry’s 2/38, as Delhi kept Gujarat’s total under check.
The chase was full of drama. Niki Prasad played a sensational 47 off 24 balls with 9 boundaries, keeping Delhi in contention. Sneh Rana scored a quick 29 off 15 balls, Jemimah Rodrigues (16 off 16) and Laura Wolvaardt (24 off 23) chipped in with crucial runs.
However, Gujarat’s Sophie Devine produced a stunning final-over performance. With 9 runs needed off 6 balls, Devine first dismissed Sneh Rana caught by Georgia Wareham at deep mid-wicket, then in a heart-stopping finish, trapped Niki Prasad with a lofted shot caught by Ashleigh Gardner on the final delivery.
The last over was a rollercoaster: Niki Prasad had earlier taken 2 runs and 1 run on the first two deliveries, Minnu Mani managed 1 run, but Delhi could not get over the line. Gujarat fielders held firm under pressure, and clinched the match by a razor-thin 3-run margin.
Earlier, Delhi, having won the toss, elected to bowl. Rajeshwari Gayakwad (3/20) and Sophie Devine (4/37) were pivotal in keeping Delhi’s top order under control. Delhi had contributions from Niki Prasad, Sneh Rana, and Laura Wolvaardt, but timely wickets at the death proved decisive.
Umpires for the match were Ajitesh Argal and Anish Sahasrabudhe, with Tony Emmatty as third umpire. Match referee was Niyati Koustubh Lokur.
