Gambhir urges humility after Aus win, eyes T20 WC goals

Bengaluru, Nov 10 (UNI) India’s T20 head coach Gautam Gambhir on Monday urged his players and fans to maintain humility after series victories, stressing that the real focus must remain on preparing for the T20 World Cup in 2026.

Speaking after the 2-1 T20 series win against Australian Down Under, Gambhir said that short-term achievements should not distract the team from its ultimate target. “Transparency and honesty are crucial for team progress towards the T20 World Cup, but celebrating series wins should be avoided,” he said in a brief teaser of an interview posted on BCCI’s X handle.

“As a nation and as individuals, we should never celebrate a series. It’s as simple as that. We did the same with Shubman Gill as well when he was appointed as Test captain,” Gambhir added, highlighting the need for consistency and composure in the team’s approach.

The former India opener, known for his tough-minded leadership style, said the current squad is being built on open communication and integrity. “It has been a very transparent room, a very honest room, and that’s how we want it to be. We still aren’t where we want to be for the T20 World Cup, but hopefully, this is a big step forward. We have three months to reach where we want to be,” he remarked.

With a new leadership group and evolving combinations, Team India under Gambhir’s guidance continues to refine its strategy ahead of the global tournament, focusing on preparation over celebration.
