Fury erupts in MP over Buddhist Guru’s controversial statement

  • A battle for religious harmony

Bhopal: A firestorm has erupted in Gwalior, following a controversial statement by a Buddhist spiritual leader, drawing widespread condemnation from Hindu organizations. The “Sanskriti Bachao Manch” (Save Culture Forum) has vehemently denounced the remarks made by Sagar Bhante, labeling them a deliberate attempt to fracture Hindu society. The incident has also sparked a strong reaction from both the ruling BJP and the opposition Congress.

Allegations of division and disrespect

Chandrashekhar Tiwari, President of the Sanskriti Bachao Manch, stated that Lord Buddha was the ninth incarnation of Vishnu and founded Buddhism to promote non-violence and renunciation, uniting Hindu society. He accused Sagar Bhante of attempting to divide Hindus by making devotees in Dabra pledge not to believe in Lord Vishnu, Rama, Shiva, and Krishna. Tiwari urged all Sanatan Dharma followers to remain steadfast in their Hindu faith, warning that internal divisions would be exploited by other communities.

Political fallout and calls for action

Milan Bhargav, BJP State Spokesperson, condemned the act as “highly objectionable and serious,” asserting that no one has the right to offend religious beliefs. He declared such events as not only anti-religious but also anti-constitutional, stressing that the government would act according to the law.

Echoing similar concerns, Mukesh Nayak, Congress Media Department President, voiced no objection to embracing Buddhism but strongly opposed conversion through criticizing other religions. He highlighted the deeply hurtful nature of disparaging any faith, questioning why individuals are treated as “untouchables” within their own society, denying them social equality and compelling them to seek solace elsewhere.
