Shimla, Feb 21 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh witnessed major snowfall and rainfall in the past 24 hours, leading to a sharp drop in temperatures across various regions.
Heavy snowfall was recorded in several locations, with Gondla receiving 42 cm, Keylong 36 cm, and Kukumseri 24.3 cm. Other areas, including Jot (16 cm) and Khadrala (15 cm), also experienced fresh snow.
Significant rainfall was recorded in lower regions, with Nagrota Suriyan receiving 56.0 mm, followed by Gamroor (44.2 mm), Chamba (42.0 mm), and Saloni (36.2 mm). Other notable rain-hit areas included Tissa (35.7 mm), Seobagh (29.2 mm), Kangra (28.8 mm), and Dalhousie (24.0 mm).
The extreme cold persisted, with temperatures plummeting in several places. The lowest minimum temperatures recorded were Tabo -11.2°C,Kukumseri: -7.2°C, Keylong: -5.8°C, Kalpa: -3.5°C,Sarahan: 1.7°C, Shimla: 3.4°C, Bhuntar: 4.0°C Dharamshala: 4.2°C Palampur & Solan: 5.0°C,Kangra: 6.6°C and Sundernagar: 7.3°C
The highest maximum temperature in the state was recorded at Una (21.2°C).
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted dry conditions for the next few days. However, a fresh Western Disturbance is expected to impact Northwest India from February 24, 2025.
The forecast indicates an increase in inclement weather conditions after February 26, which may bring another spell of rain and snowfall to the region.
The IMD advises travellers and residents in higher altitudes to remain cautious, as heavy snow accumulation and falling temperatures could lead to road blockages and disruptions.
