Unnao, Feb 5 (UNI) A high-speed truck lost control on a national highway in Unnao district late Wednesday night, crushing a motorcycle and killing a family of four, husband, wife, and their two young children, police said on Thursday.
The accident occurred near Bhalla Farm under the Soharamau police station area, police said on Thursday.
According to the police, a speeding truck rammed into a motorcycle from behind and ran over the family. The victims were identified as Virendra (35), his wife Reetu (33), their daughter Anuradha (9), and their son Rudra (6), residents of Ajgain town and police station area. Virendra was engaged in farming and also worked a private job.
The family was returning home on a motorcycle from a wedding ceremony in Dayalkheda village under Banthara police station limits in Lucknow. Virendra was riding the bike with his wife and two younger children. Their elder daughter, Nancy (15), was riding on another motorcycle with Virendra’s brother-in-law, Ranjeet, and survived the accident.
Police said that near Bhalla Farm crossing, Virendra slowed down his motorcycle to wait for the second bike. Meanwhile, a high-speed truck hit a container vehicle from behind, causing it to overturn on the highway. While attempting to flee, the truck went out of control and crushed the motorcycle carrying the family.
The accident took place around 11:30 pm, about 40 kilometers from the district headquarters. After the incident, the truck driver fled the scene. Residents immediately informed the police. Soharamau police reached the spot, removed the bodies from the highway, and restored traffic. The damaged motorcycle was seized.
Station House Officer Arvind Pandey said that all four bodies have been sent for post-mortem. The truck involved in the accident has been seized, and further investigation is underway.
