Imphal, Sep 27 (UNI) In a series of coordinated operations across Manipur and Assam, security forces have arrested four militants belonging to different banned insurgent groups, including two directly involved in the September 19 ambush on the 33 Assam Rifles at Nambol Sabal Leikai in Manipur’s Bishnupur district.
According to police sources, two cadres of the proscribed People’s Liberation Army (PLA) were apprehended yesterday.
Among them is an 18-year-old youth, and S/S Lt Corpl Chongtham Mahesh, a senior PLA operative hailing from Keishampat Leimajam Leikai in Imphal West district. Mahesh, who has been associated with the PLA since 1990, was arrested from Guwahati, Assam, with the assistance of the Crime Branch Police Station, Guwahati. Authorities have described him as a highly influential figure within the militant organization.
In separate operations on the same day, security forces also detained an active cadre of the Kangleipak Communist Party (People’s War Group) and an active member of the Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL) from Sawombung Community Hall under the jurisdiction of Lamlai Police Station in Imphal East district.
