Former VP Dhankhar attends swearing-in of new Vice President

New Delhi, Sept 12 (UNI) Former Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar today attended the oath-taking ceremony of CP Radhakrishnan, who was sworn in as the 15th Vice President of India. Dhankhar congratulated Radhakrishnan on assuming the country’s second-highest constitutional office.

Radhakrishnan, a veteran BJP leader from Tamil Nadu, was elected Vice President earlier this week after securing 452 votes against the Opposition INDIA bloc’s candidate, retired Supreme Court judge B. Sudershan Reddy, who received 300 votes.

The election witnessed 98.2% voter turnout, with 752 valid ballots and 15 invalid votes, lowering the winning mark to 377.

Backed by the BJP-led NDA and several smaller parties, Radhakrishnan’s victory margin exceeded expectations, hinting at cross-voting from the Opposition parties. While the NDA had a clear numerical advantage, the size of the win was seen as a setback for the INDIA bloc, which had claimed complete unity among its MPs.

A long-time RSS associate and seasoned politician, Radhakrishnan succeeds Jagdeep Dhankhar, who was elected in 2022 with a bigger margin of 528 votes. Political observers say his decisive win could have implications for upcoming electoral dynamics in Tamil Nadu.
