Bhopal: Former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister and veteran Congress leader Arjun Singh was fondly remembered on his birth anniversary on Wednesday. A large number of Congress leaders, party workers, admirers and citizens gathered at the statue of Arjun Singh at the Board Office Square early in the morning to offer floral tributes and recall his lasting contribution to public life.

Later, a commemorative gathering was organised at the Madhya Pradesh Congress headquarters in Shivaji Nagar, where leaders once again paid homage to the late leader. His elder son Abhimanyu Singh and younger son and former Leader of Opposition, Ajay Singh, were present at both programmes, taking part in the tribute ceremonies and sharing emotional memories of their father.

Speaking on the occasion, Madhya Pradesh Congress in-charge Harish Chaudhary said that Arjun Singh was “not merely an individual, but a profound ideological force.” He highlighted that Arjun Singh dedicated his political life to social justice, the upliftment of the poor, inclusive development and the cultural integrity of the nation. “These values still resonate across India,” Chaudhary said.

Recalling Arjun Singh’s tenure as Governor of Punjab, Chaudhary remarked that he played a historically significant role in restoring peace in the state, doing so without calling upon the Army. “This remains a unique example in global political history,” he said. Chaudhary also drew a parallel with the recent mayoral election speech in New York, where the elected mayor invoked Jawaharlal Nehru’s legacy. “Just like Nehru is remembered globally, Arjun Singh will always be remembered for his comprehensive contributions. After Nehru, it was Arjun Singh who embodied that broad national vision,” he said.

Chaudhary urged Congress workers to collectively resolve to carry forward Arjun Singh’s ideology and dedicate themselves to strengthening the nation. “It is the responsibility of our generation to ensure that the values Arjun Singh upheld continue to live on,” he asserted.

Senior Congress leaders including former ministers Mukesh Nayak and P.C. Sharma, Sheriyar Khan, Chandrika Dwivedi, Dilip Mishra, Mahendra Singh Chauhan, former MLA Sukhendra Singh Banna, Kalpana Verma, Prahlad Tipaniya, Ajit Bhadauriya, Abhinav Barolia, J.P. Dhanopia, Ravi Saxena, Avneesh Bundela, Rajkumar Singh, Dharmendra Tiwari, Vivek Tomar, Satyendra Kushwaha and many others attended the memorial gathering.

The event concluded with a collective pledge to preserve and promote the values of justice, equality and inclusive development that Arjun Singh stood for throughout his political journey.
