- Thousands affected, army and air rescue operations underway
Bhopal, Relentless rainfall over the past three days has thrown life out of gear across several districts of Madhya Pradesh. The worst-hit areas—Shivpuri, Morena, Sagar, and Vidisha—are grappling with rising floodwaters, prompting large-scale rescue operations with support from the Army and airlift missions.
= Shivpuri submerged: Villages underwater, air Rescues conducted
In Shivpuri’s Kolaras-Badarwas region, over two dozen villages are submerged due to overflowing rivers like the Sindh. Around 300 people have been rescued by joint teams of the Army, police, and local administration. Notably, 15 individuals were airlifted near Anandpur Sahib, and helicopters were deployed to evacuate stranded residents in Bhadora village.
= Morena on edge: Chambal breaches danger mark
The Chambal, Kwari, and Asan rivers in Morena district are in spate, with Chambal flowing above the danger mark. According to Collector Ankit Asthana, 64 relief camps have been set up, with 310 residents relocated. Five rescue operations are currently active, and key roads remain blocked.
= Sagar-Vidisha cut off: Highways and homes inundated
In Sagar, the Sagar–Vidisha highway is blocked after Mirkhedi Bridge went under water. Rising Vyarma river levels have also caused flooding in residential areas along the Rahli–Jabalpur road. A woman returning from Deori’s Ramghat Temple was swept away and remains missing.
= Guna alert: Kalora dam partially breached, army-deployed
In Guna’s Bamori area, Kalora Dam’s west weir broke by nearly 10 feet following 9 inches of rain in just 12 hours. The breach has triggered flood alerts in 11 villages, affecting over 3,500 people. NDRF and Army units have been deployed amid fears of a full collapse.
