Flood : 80 prisoners shifted to Kalamba central jail in Maharashtra

Sangli, Maharashtra, July 26 (UNI) In the backdrop of rapidly increasing flood water in Krishna river in this district following heavy rainfall, Sangli district jail authorities on Friday shifted a total of 80 notorious prisoners including most wanted prisoners, to the neighbouring Kalamba central jail in Kolhapur district as a precautionary measure as there was a possibility of flood water inundating the Sangli district jail.

According to district Jail Superintendent Mahadev Hore, a total 80 prisoners including 20 female and 60 male prisoners including most wanted prisoners have been shifted to Kalamba central jail under tight security and police bandobust.

The water level of River Krishna is now at 38 feet at Irwin bridge.

Mr Hore said that due to rapidly increasing water level of Krishna river, jail authorities had already shifted food stock, documents, weapons, ammunition to safer places.
