Flights suspended at Dubai Airport after drone attack sparks fire

Dubai, March 16 (UNI) Flights at Dubai International Airport were temporarily suspended on Monday after a drone attack sparked a fire near the airport, prompting authorities to halt operations as a precautionary safety measure.

The Dubai Civil Aviation Authority announced the suspension, saying the step was taken to ensure the safety of passengers and airport staff.

“Travellers are advised to contact their respective airlines for the latest updates regarding their flights,” the authority said in a statement, adding that further information would be issued through official channels once the situation is reviewed.

According to officials, a drone attack triggered a fire close to the airport perimeter, which emergency services quickly contained. The Dubai Media Office said air defence systems responded to the incident before the temporary halt to flight operations was ordered.

The disruption comes amid heightened tensions in the Middle East since late February, following strikes involving the United States, Israel, and Iran, which have led to retaliatory drone and missile attacks and intermittent airspace restrictions across several Gulf states.

Regional aviation has already faced significant disruption, with previous suspensions affecting Dubai International Airport and Al Maktoum International Airport, resulting in more than 1,800 flight cancellations across the region.

Travellers, including many from India transiting through Dubai, have been advised to check airline websites or mobile applications for updated flight schedules, as bookings may still appear active despite ongoing disruptions.
