Bhopal: A massive influx of pilgrims returning from Kubereshwar Dham in Sehore created an unprecedented scene at Bhopal Railway Station on August 6 and 7. More than 150,000 devotees, returning from the final Kanwar Yatra of Shravan month, filled platforms, waiting rooms, and foot-over bridges to their capacity. Despite the immense pressure, the railway administration, led by Divisional Railway Manager Pankaj Tyagi, implemented a special action plan to ensure a smooth and safe experience for everyone.
Senior railway officials, including Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Saurabh Kataria, were on-site to assess the situation and direct crowd control measures. Thanks to their prompt response, over 60 trains—mostly heading toward Delhi—operated without any disruptions.
Ensuring safety and order
To prevent chaos, a joint team from the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and the commercial department worked tirelessly throughout the night. Special directions were given to manage the flow of passengers, and public announcements and coach guidance systems provided continuous, updated information.
Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Saurabh Kataria personally used a microphone on the platforms to guide passengers, effectively preventing any stampedes or confusion. The officials remained at the station until 6:00 AM each day to maintain control. The successful handling of this challenging situation demonstrates the railway administration’s commitment to passenger safety and efficient service, ensuring that future emergencies will be met with the same level of preparedness.
Travel made easier this Raksha Bandhan
This year, the railway administration is adding an extra coach to the Rani Kamalapati–Adhartal–Rani Kamalapati Express to accommodate the rush of travelers for Raksha Bandhan. The temporary addition of a sleeper coach, which will operate as a general compartment, will provide 72 additional seats for passengers.
This extra capacity will be available on August 10 and 11, 2025, on train numbers 22187 and 22188. The initiative is a response to the high demand during the festival, aiming to offer more travel options and relief to those without a prior reservation.
Passengers are advised to take advantage of this facility and check train schedules and stoppages using official resources like Rail Madad (139) or the NTES app before their journey.
