Washington, Nov 21 (UNI) The first trailer for ‘The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping’, the latest installment in the Hunger Games franchise, has been released. The film is scheduled to hit theaters on November 20, 2026.
According to Variety, Sunrise on the Reaping is based on the novel of the same name and is set 24 years before the original film, following a young Haymitch Abernathy (played by Joseph Zada) as he is selected to compete in the 50th Hunger Games.
As the Games mark the second Quarter Quell, which occurs every 25 years, each district must send twice the usual tributes, resulting in 48 children fighting to the death for victory.
The trailer gives fans their first look at Joseph Zada in the iconic role originally played by Woody Harrelson, as he navigates the brutal arena alongside other tributes. Lionsgate shared the trailer on their Instagram handle.
The prequel also stars Elle Fanning as a young Effie Trinket, originally portrayed by Elizabeth Banks. Ralph Fiennes steps into the role of President Coriolanus Snow, previously played by Donald Sutherland in the original films and Tom Blyth in The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.
Other key cast members include Kieran Culkin as Caesar Flickerman (originally Stanley Tucci), Jesse Plemons as a young Plutarch Heavensbee (Philip Seymour Hoffman), Kelvin Harrison Jr., Glenn Close, Maya Hawke, Mckenna Grace, Billy Porter, Whitney Peak, Ben Wang, Molly McCann, Iona Bell, and Percy Daggs IV.
