Firozabad, Oct 16 (UNI) Tension gripped Madawali village after a 43-year-old farmer, Dharmveer Singh, was shot dead following a dispute related to agricultural land boundaries, police said on Thursday.
The incident involved members of the same extended family and has left the village in shock.
Initial investigation suggests Singh visited his field on Wednesday evening and found that the boundary separating his land from that of his cousin, Lalta Prasad, had been altered. He went to Mr Prasad’s residence around 9 pm to discuss the matter.
A verbal confrontation took place, which quickly escalated. Lalta Prasad and his three sons—Mohan, Akash, and Luv—allegedly assaulted the victim and then opened fire on him.
Residents and family members, who rushed to the spot after hearing the gunshots, immediately took Singh to the nearest trauma centre, where doctors declared him dead upon arrival.
Upon receiving information, senior police officials, including SP City Ravishankar Prasad, Circle Officer Ambrish Kumar, and Inspector Anjeesh Kumar, arrived at the scene with a forensic team. A locally made firearm was recovered from the site, and the investigation team collected evidence.
Singh is survived by a son, Nikhil, and a daughter. Nikhil told police that the conflict over the land boundary had been ongoing, which is suspected to be the motive behind the murder. The homes of the two related families are located approximately 50 metres apart.
Following the incident, the accused persons reportedly left the village and are currently absconding. Police have launched a search operation and are continuing their investigation.
“A case of fatal conflict over a land boundary has been reported. A locally made firearm was recovered. Both parties are related and belong to the same family. The accused are on the run, and further investigation is underway,” disclosed Ravishankar Prasad, SP City.
