Final stage of budget preparations begin after ‘halwa ceremony’

New Delhi, Jan 27 (UNI) The preparations for the union Budget 2026–27 have entered their final stages following the traditional ‘Halwa Ceremony’ at the Budget Press in North Block on Wednesday here.

The ceremony marks the beginning of the last phase of budget preparation before the Finance Minister presents the Budget in Parliament on February 1.

The event was attended by union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary, and senior officials from the Ministry of Finance.

During the ceremony, the Finance Minister reviewed the work and extended her best wishes to all officials involved in preparing the Budget.

The Halwa Ceremony is a long-standing ritual that signals the start of the “lock-in” period, during which officers work in the Ministry to finalise all figures and documents for the Budget.

All documents, including the Annual Financial Statement, Demand for Grants and Finance Bill, will be made available to Members of Parliament and the public through the union Budget Mobile App, available in English and Hindi, for both Android and iOS users, the finance ministry statement added.
