- City of Lakes glows with celebrations as shoppers, prayers and carols mark the joyous occasion
Bhopal: Christmas celebrations brought a wave of colour, cheer and bustling activity across Bhopal on Wednesday, with major markets witnessing a festive rush since morning. Youngsters and girls, many dressed in bright red attire and several donning Santa Claus caps and costumes, added to the lively atmosphere. From New Market to MP Nagar and local shopping hubs, stalls selling decorations, cakes, gifts and novelty items reported brisk sales as families stepped out to soak in the holiday spirit.
Christmas morning unfolded like a vibrant tapestry across the City of Lakes. Cheerful crowds, twinkling decorations, festive music and the aroma of plum cakes and coffee filled the air. Cafés and bakeries saw long queues, while families gathered to celebrate the day with warmth and togetherness. The city, bathed in festive hues, reflected a perfect blend of celebration and joy.
Churches were beautifully decorated
Alongside the market buzz, the spiritual essence of Christmas was deeply felt. Churches across the city, including St. Francis of Assisi, Assumption Church, Our Lady of Lourdes, Infant Jesus Church, Queen of the Universe and St. Joseph Church, were beautifully decorated with illuminated tableaux depicting the nativity. These churches drew large numbers of devotees throughout the day.
In the evening, families assembled at churches where choir groups rendered melodious Christmas carols, creating a soulful ambience ahead of the midnight service. As the clock struck twelve, the birth of Lord Jesus was celebrated with hymns, prayers and cake cutting. Devotees exchanged greetings and wishes, while long queues were seen as worshippers patiently waited to kiss the infant Jesus placed in the manger.
Blending festive fervour with devotion, Christmas in Bhopal once again emerged as a celebration of joy, faith and community spirit.
