Bhopal: The city witnessed vibrant festivities today as locals celebrated Dev Uthani Gyaras, a day devoted to rituals, worship, and family gatherings. In temples and households, traditional sugarcane pavilions were decorated, adding to the spiritual ambiance. According to Pandit Chandrashekhar Tiwari, manager of the Maa Vaishno Dham Adarsh Navdurga Temple and Baba Khatu Shyam Temple at Platinum Plaza, this day also marked the Jayanti of Baba Khatu Shyam and the ceremonial wedding of Tulsi and Shaligram.
Baba Khatu Shyam was adorned with 501 kilograms of flowers, an impressive display of devotion. The festivities will continue tomorrow, November 13, with an Annakut Mahotsav Bhandara, where devotees gather for a grand community meal.
Other notable celebrations included Tulsi-Shaligram wedding ceremonies held across Bhopal. These events took place in various locations such as Ramanand Music School in Lalghati, Maa Kalka Darbar in Barkhedi, and temples at Khatipura and Sheetaldas’s Bagiya, as well as in several homes.
Women’s Musical Celebration at Karunadham Ashram
Karunadham Ashram in Nehru Nagar is hosting a two-day Tulsi-Shaligram marriage event. This morning, the event began with the Gauri-Ganesh puja led by Gurudev Pandit Sudesh Shandilya. As part of the marriage rituals, the Haldi-Mehndi ceremony was observed, during which turmeric and henna were applied to the idols of Shaligram and Tulsi.
Later in the evening, a lively procession featuring Lord Shaligram was taken out from Nehru Nagar Square, accompanied by traditional band music. The evening concluded with symbolic garland exchanges and ceremonial rounds around the sacred fire. On Monday, the ashram hosted a special Mahila Sangeet event, where women sang traditional songs in honor of the festivities.
Simultaneously, the Narmada Brahmin Kolar unit celebrated Tulsi Vivah with great zeal. Their two-day event included all traditional marriage rituals, with a procession moving from CI Square to Ashirvad Colony at 6 p.m. The ceremonial procession attracted a large turnout of devotees.
Devotees Flock to Markets
As the city prepared for Dev Uthani Ekadashi, Bhopal’s marketplaces were bustling with activity. Shoppers filled the stalls, purchasing ritual essentials, sweets, and other festive items to mark this auspicious day. The lively markets reflected the festive spirit as locals gathered everything needed for the day’s puja and celebrations.
