Bhopal: The Excise Department carried out a major operation on Tuesday to curb the production and sale of illegal liquor. Raids were conducted in Shantinagar, Padariya, and Haripura areas, resulting in the seizure of large quantities of hand-made liquor.
Excise Controller RG Bhadauria informed that around 15 liters of illegal liquor were confiscated from the house of Lakhan Banjara in Shantinagar, located about 12 km from Bhopal. In Padariya village, about 25 liters of illicit liquor stored in two plastic jars were seized from a woman’s residence. The woman managed to flee upon seeing the raiding team.
Additionally, in Haripura, the team recovered and destroyed 500 kg of Mahua Lahan (a key raw material for country liquor) and other liquor-making equipment stored in 32 jars. The confiscated liquor was poured on the ground during the operation.
Liquor and related items worth approximately ?1.25 lakh were seized, and cases have been registered under the Madhya Pradesh Excise Act. Circle in-charge Dr. Seema Kashisia and her team were present during the entire operation.
