Mumbai, Jun 23 (UNI) Every rupee spent for development should reach the common man and in this regard, the work of the Estimates Committee of Parliament is very effective, said Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde here on Monday.
He was speaking at the inauguration of the National Conference of Estimates Committees of Parliament and various states today.
The two-day conference began this morning in the Vidhan Bhavan auditorium. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh Singh, Legislative Council Chairman Prof. Ram Shinde, Assembly Speaker Adv. Rahul Narvekar, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Legislative Council Deputy Chairman Dr. Neelam Gorhe, Assembly Deputy Chairman Anna Bansode, Committee Head of the Estimates Committee of Lok Sabha Dr. Sanjay Jaiswal, Committee Head of the Estimates Committee of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Arjun Khotkar were present.
The Deputy Chief Minister said in his speech that the welfare of the poor is Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s agenda and he emphasises that every Rupee must reach the poor. “Estimates Committees play an important role from this point of view and ensure the efficiency, economy and transparency of the administration.
Currently, these committees are in their prime and the country is also progressing at double speed,” he said.
Stating that these committees are the mirror of the soul of democracy, Deputy Chief Minister Shinde said that
Financial responsibility and transparency are very important pillars in a democratic system and the Estimates Committee is a very capable and effective parliamentary medium.
“Our budget contains many things. There are also announcements and provisions. It is important to see whether these provisions are being used properly, in a timely manner and effectively, and this is the responsibility that this committee fulfills,” Deputy Chief Minister Shinde said.
