- Launches statewide water conservation campaign
Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav emphasized the critical importance of water conservation, stating that “every drop of water holds life’s essence, and preserving it is the only way to avert future water crises.” He made this statement while launching the state’s ambitious Jal Ganga Sanvardhan Abhiyan, a three-month-long campaign focused on rejuvenating traditional water sources and building new rainwater harvesting structures through mass public participation.
The campaign, running until June 30, has already seen active involvement from ministers, MPs, panchayat representatives, government officials, and local citizens.
In Shahdol, restoration work is underway in nearly every village. In Kumari and Khamhidol villages, community ponds have been cleaned and deepened to better capture rainwater.
In Chhindwara, college students, under the guidance of the Jan Abhiyan Parishad, volunteered their time to clean the ancient kund at Pataleshwar Dham. Students removed silt, leaves, and ritual waste to revive the water body.
Dewas district is also seeing large-scale efforts, such as the deepening of the Agaira village pond in Sonkatch block. This will help increase rainwater storage capacity and improve both drinking water availability and irrigation potential.
In Umaria, residents, in partnership with local organizations, conducted a sanitation drive at the Pali Sagra pond. Wall art and public awareness events, like Jal Chaupals, are helping to foster community awareness around water issues.
CM Yadav stressed that the success of this campaign depends on collective effort. Encouragingly, a shift in public mindset is already visible, with the younger generation stepping up to take part in securing the future of water.
