Buenos Aires, Dec 20 (UNI) Veteran Argentine midfielder Ever Banega is set to leave Newell’s Old Boys after the club decided not to renew his contract, sporting director Roberto Sensini confirmed.
Banega, who began his second spell at Newell’s in January 2024 following a decade abroad, will depart the Rosario club when his contract expires on December 31.
“It is a decision by both sides, the player and the club. We have already made that decision, so I wanted to inform you because you are going to ask the same question several times,” Sensini told reporters.
Banega made 65 appearances across all competitions over two full seasons with Newell’s, scoring five goals and providing nine assists. He also represented the Primera Division side during a brief loan period in 2014.
Argentine media said Banega is considering offers from clubs in the United States and Spain.
The 37-year-old has been capped 65 times for Argentina over a career that has also included stints at Boca Juniors, Valencia, Atletico Madrid, Sevilla, Inter Milan, and Al Shabab.
