Eight-kg tumor removed from teenager in complex surgery

Bhopal: Doctors at Sagar Multispeciality Hospital (SMH) on Hoshangabad Road have successfully removed a rare, eight-kilogram tumor from the abdomen of an 18-year-old girl. The young woman had been suffering from abdominal pain, indigestion, vomiting, and a significant loss of appetite and weight for the past six months. Despite seeking treatment at multiple hospitals, her condition showed no improvement.

Her family eventually consulted Dr. Shubham Pandey, a cancer specialist at SMH. Investigations revealed a massive tumor located near her left kidney and pancreas. The large size of the tumor was causing her considerable discomfort.

Challenging eight-hour procedure

Dr. Shubham Pandey meticulously studied her condition and formulated a surgical plan. The tumor’s enormous size and its spread across two vital organs, the kidney and pancreas, posed a significant challenge as it was also adhered to major blood vessels.

After eight hours of complex surgery, Dr. Shubham Pandey, along with Anesthesia and Critical Care specialist Dr. Mahesh S. Kurve and their team, successfully excised the eight-kilogram tumor. The patient was kept under post-operative care and has since been discharged, with routine follow-up appointments scheduled.
