England, Aug 27 (UNI) A total of eight people were injured on the second day of the Notting Hill Carnival, five of them stabbed, the London Police said on Tuesday.
“As of 22:50hrs [21:50 GMT Monday] there had been five stabbings, two incidents where victims sustained slash wounds and one incident involving a corrosive substance. Two of those who were stabbed are in a life threatening condition,” the force said in a statement.
Thirty-five officers were injured and 230 arrests were made on Monday. Three knife attacks were recorded on Sunday, the first day of the carnival, with one person taken to hospital in a life threatening condition.
The annual Carnival has been held in the London borough of Notting Hill on the last Monday of August and the preceding Sunday since 1966.
The idea behind the carnival was to unite a diverse community and promote peace between different races. Instead, it has become notorious for crime, drug abuse, and environmental issues.
