Eight held over suspected links to Pakistan’s ISI, Bangladesh: Delhi Police

New Delhi, Feb 22 (UNI) Eight suspected terrorists from Tamil Nadu were taken into custody by the Delhi Police Special Cell, after they thwarted a major terror conspiracy, an official said on Sunday.

Among those arrested is a Bangladeshi national. The suspects were allegedly plotting a major attack in India under the direction of Pakistan’s ISI and Bangladesh-based terror groups.

The alleged individuals were detained from different garment factories in Tiruppur and later brought to Delhi by train. The team has confiscated dozens of mobile phones and SIM cards from them.

Officials said the suspects arrested were Mizanur Rahman, Mohammad Shabat, Umar, Mohammad Litan, Mohammad Shahid, and Mohommad Ujjal, adding that the other two were arrested in West Bengal.

Preliminary probe revealed that the suspects had been using forged Aadhaar cards to conceal their identities. “Posing as garment industry workers, they were allegedly working to expand their terror network,” a senior officer said.

According to police, the accused used social media platforms to promote Pakistan-based terrorist groups and influence young people in the area.

Officials seized eight mobile phones and 16 SIM cards from the accused. Data extracted from the devices reportedly show links to foreign handlers, and investigators suspect cross-border funding.

Officials also found that they were involved in activities in Delhi related to “Free Kashmir” posters and other suspicious acts.
