Dallas, Sep 9 (UNI) Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Monday attacked the RSS during an interaction programme with students of University of Texas, and accused the organisation of allegedly ‘capturing the education system’ and appointing vice chancellors who are following their ideology.
Gandhi said, “I think the major issue with the education system today is ideological capture, where ideology is being fed through it and alleged that RSS is capturing the education system”.
He also alleged, “Most of our vice chancellors are being appointed by the RSS, an organisation with a very particular perspective on life, history, and the future. This is really damaging”.
“Having one organisation placing its entire people in the education system is harmful. It’s important to ensure that those running our education system are independent, not ideological, and not committed to a particular way of thinking,” the former Congress president said.
He also slammed the RSS and BJP accusing them of being against women empowerment and said that both the organisations want to ‘confine the women to traditional role’.
The Rae Bareli MP said that the Congress always believed in women empowerment, whereas the BJP and RSS always believed that women should be confined to traditional roles like ‘staying at home, cooking, and speaking less’.
“I believe in women’s empowerment. To ensure women have opportunities in business, support them financially if they want to start their own businesses, and make it easier for them to participate. The first step is to view women as equal to men, acknowledging that they can do anything a man can do and recognising their strengths,” he stressed.
“We believe women should be free to aspire to whatever they want to do,” the former Congress president said, who is on a three-day visit to the United States.
