Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan stresses on the role of technology in improving learning outcomes

New Delhi, Feb 11 (UNI) union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said that the role of technology in education has vastly changed from a medium to access content to a medium to improve learning outcomes today. The minister said this while chairing a roundtable at IIT Delhi with founders of 10 Indian Edtech startups to discuss the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the country’s education system, with a focus on learning outcomes, accessibility and safeguards.

The meeting brought together policymakers, academic leaders and entrepreneurs working on AI-based tools for K–12 learning, test preparation, upskilling and language learning.

According to officials, the interaction was part of a series of consultations ahead of the India AI Impact Summit and is intended to feed into policy discussions on responsible AI adoption and scaling technology-driven education initiatives.

Startups participating included Arivihan, Fermi AI, Khare.AI, Seekho, SpeakX, SuperKalam, SuperNova, Vedantu, ConveGenius and Virohan.

Investor Ashutosh Sharma, who also participated in the roundtable, said that education technology should be seen as a long-term national capability, arguing that digital tools remain among the few scalable ways to address gaps in access to quality learning.

Senior officials from the Ministries of Education and Skill Development, IIT Delhi and IIT Madras, as well as representatives from CBSE, Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan, Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti, NASSCOM and the National Skill Development Corporation were present.

The roundtable will be followed by the two-day Bharat Bodhan AI Conclave at Bharat Mandapam on February 12–13, where policymakers, researchers and industry representatives are expected to discuss the strategic role of AI in education.
