ED introduces QR code verification to combat fake summons fraud

New Delhi, Nov 20 (UNI) In response to rising reports of fake summons being circulated in the name of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for cheating and extortion, the ED has implemented new measures to help citizens verify the authenticity of summons notices, the Finance Ministry’s official account announced today.

Fake ED summons closely mimic genuine notices, making it challenging for recipients to distinguish between legitimate communication and fraudulent attempts. To tackle this growing menace, the ED now issues system-generated summons embedded with a QR code and a unique passcode.

“Summons issued by the Enforcement Directorate can be verified by scanning the QR code printed on them or by visiting the official ED website,” the Ministry of Finance stated. The ED also clarified that it does not conduct digital or online arrests, cautioning citizens to remain alert against impersonators.

Citizens are urged to exercise vigilance and verify any suspicious summons before taking any action, safeguarding themselves from falling victim to fraudsters posing as ED officials. This initiative aims to restore public confidence and enhance the transparency of ED’s legal processes.
