ED files charge sheet against Bengal Minister Chandranath Sinha in teacher recruitment case

Kolkata, Aug 7 (UNI) The Enforcement Directorate (ED) today filed a charge sheet against Chandranath Sinha, West Bengal’s Minister for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises and
Textiles, in connection with alleged irregularities in the recruitment of primary school
teachers in state-run institutions.

Sinha after former Education Minister Partha Chatterjee becomes the second minister from the Bengal government to face such action in this case.

The charge sheet was submitted on Wednesday in a special court under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) in Kolkata.

Sinha, a two-time Trinamool Congress MLA representing Bolpur in Birbhum district, had previously skipped two summons issued by the ED.

However, today, he made an unexpected appearance at the ED office. It remains unclear whether
he was interrogated during the visit.

Reacting to the news, Sinha said, “I’ve heard about the charge sheet, but I’m not fully aware of the details. We will look into it.”

Earlier, on July 31, ED officials had requested documents related to Sinha’s assets, including both movable and immovable properties belonging to him and his family. Despite the request, he did not appear at the ED’s CGO Complex office in Salt Lake, Kolkata.
