New Delhi, Jan 5, (UNI) Intensifying election scenario ahead of assembly poll in West Bengal this year, national and state election body holds meeting the office of Election Commission of India (ECI) on Monday.
According to the source close to the development “the meeting is undergoing. One of the crucial discussion will be on deployment of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) for West Bengal.”
Chief Election Commission (CEC), Election Commissioners (EC) are holding meeting with Manoj Kumar, Chief electoral officer (CEO), West Bengal. Sources reveal that Election Commission will also take stock of the Selective Intensive Revision (SIR) that happened in the state.
At present the hearing process of the unmapped voter is going on. As per sources, the meeting will include the CEOs of other poll bound states of Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and the union Territory of Puducherry. Additional CAPF deployment has been requested this time due to the proposed reduction in the number of voting phases compared to the 2021 and 2015 Assembly elections, according to the sources.
The 2021 Assembly elections were held in eight phases, while the 2016 polls were conducted over six phases, with the first phase split across two days. On December 31 a delegation of 10 MPs including Abhishek Banerjee, AITC General Secretary and senior cabinet ministers met the Election Commission of India where the party raised 10 different issues.
Earlier, on November 28, a similar 10-member delegation met ECI following SIR process in Bengal. On the other hand Wear Bengal Chief minister Mamata Banerjee wrote to Chief Election Commissioner for the third time on January 03 regarding SIR asking to “address and rectify the glitches.”
The other two letters were dated November 20 and December 2, 2025 on SIR. So far over 58 lakhs names have been deleted in West Bengal in the draft electoral roll whereas 92.40 per cent names have been retained.
