ECI imposes exit poll ban for Jubilee Hills assembly bye-election

Hyderabad, Oct 15 (UNI) The Election Commission of India (ECI) has officially notified a ban on the conduct and publication of exit polls in connection with the Jubilee Hills Assembly constituency bye-election, District Election Officer and GHMC Commissioner R V Karnan said in a press release on Wednesday.

According to Notification No. 576/EXIT/2025/SDR/Vol.I, dated October 13, 2025, no person shall conduct, publish, or publicize any exit poll through print, electronic, or any other media during the period from 0700 hours on November 6 (Thursday) to 1830 hours on November 11 (Tuesday).

The restriction applies to television, radio, newspapers, social media platforms, and all forms of digital or online channels. Any violation of this directive will invite penal action under Section 126A of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, which prescribes imprisonment up to two years, or fine, or both.

In addition, Section 126(1)(b) of the Act prohibits the display of any election matter, including results of opinion polls or surveys, during the 48-hour period preceding the close of polling.

Karnan urged media houses, political parties, digital influencers, and all stakeholders to strictly comply with these statutory provisions to uphold the sanctity of the electoral process and ensure free, fair, and transparent elections.
