New Delhi, Nov 30 (UNI) The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced a one-week extension to the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Electoral Rolls in 12 States and union Territories.
The revision, which uses January 1, 2026, as the qualifying date, aims to update the voter lists to ensure maximum inclusion and accuracy ahead of future elections, the poll panel said in après note on Sunday.
Asserting that the SIR exercise is a crucial, periodic activity undertaken by the ECI to cleanse and update the electoral database, the poll panel maintained that by setting January 1, 2026, as the qualifying date, the revision ensures that all citizens turning 18 years of age on or before that date are eligible to register as voters.
The extension is intended to allow Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) and field staff adequate time to complete all procedural steps, particularly the ground-level enumeration and rationalization of polling stations.
The previously announced deadlines across several key activities have been pushed back by seven days. The revised schedule provides new dates for the completion of enumeration, the preparation of the draft roll, and the final publication of the updated list.
The updated timeline is as follows:
Enumeration Period: Extended until December 11, 2025 (Thursday)
Rationalization/Re-arrangement of Polling Stations: By December 11, 2025 (Thursday)
Updation of Control Table and Preparation of Draft Roll: December 12 (Friday) to December 15 (Monday), 2025
Publication of Draft Electoral Roll: December 16, 2025 (Tuesday)
Period for Filing Claims & Objections: December 16 (Tuesday), 2025 to January 15, 2026 (Thursday)
Notice Phase (Issuance, Hearing & Verification), Decision on Enumeration Forms and Disposal of Claims and Objections: December 16 (Tuesday), 2025 to February 7, 2026 (Saturday)
Checking of Health Parameters of Electoral Rolls and Obtaining Commission’s Permission for Final Publication: By February 10, 2026 (Tuesday)
