EAM Jaishankar speaks with new UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy

New Delhi, July 6 (UNI) External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Saturday spoke with new UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy and both sides reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing the bilateral Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

In a post on X, EAM Jaishankar said he looks forward to an early in-person meeting with his UK counterpart.

“Delighted to speak to UK Foreign Secretary @DavidLammy.

“We reaffirmed our commitment to enhance our Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Look forward to an early in-person meeting.”

On Friday, EAM had in a post on X congratulated Lammy on being appointed the new UK Foreign Secretary.

“Congratulations to @DavidLammy on being appointed Foreign Secretary of the United Kingdom.

“Look forward to continuing our engagement and strengthen the India-Great Britain Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.”

New UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has appointed David Lammy as Foreign Secretary after the Labour Party swept to power in a landslide general election win.

Lammy, 51, a trailblazing black lawmaker, replaces the Conservatives’ David Cameron as Britain’s top diplomat.

Lammy has been Labour’s international affairs spokesman for over two years.

He had campaigned unsuccessfully for the UK to stay in the EU and sought a second referendum to overturn the Brexit vote.
