New Delhi, Aug 16 (UNI) External Affairs Minister (EAM) Dr. S Jaishankar held productive discussions with the Republic of Korea’s (RoK) Foreign Minister Cho Hyun, focusing on expanding bilateral cooperation across a wide spectrum of sectors.
In a post on X, EAM Jaishankar said, “Held productive discussions on advancing our bilateral cooperation in trade, manufacturing, maritime and people-to-people exchanges, as well as new opportunities in AI, semiconductors, clean energy, and defence.”
The talks come at a time when India and South Korea mark the 10th anniversary of their “deepening convergences and growing engagement” as a part of their Special Strategic Partnership.
The two ministers also exchanged views on regional and global issues.
“We also shared perspectives on the Indo-Pacific and contemporary global developments,” Jaishankar noted.
Earlier in the day, Jaishankar welcomed Foreign Minister Cho Hyun, describing it as a “very special privilege” to host “an old friend in a new capacity.” He congratulated Cho on his recent appointment and noted the symbolic significance of his visit taking place just a day after both nations celebrated their respective National Days.
“You have been in office for barely a month, and your decision to visit India so soon, especially right after both our National Days, speaks volumes about the importance we attach to our bilateral relationship,” the EAM remarked, extending warm greetings on the occasion of Korea’s National Liberation Day.
Jaishankar also recalled the positive interaction between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Yoon Suk Yeol during their recent meeting in Kananaskis, Canada, describing it as a “very good meeting marked by strong personal bonding.”
Expressing appreciation for South Korea’s unequivocal condemnation of the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jaishankar said India deeply values Seoul’s solidarity.
He also thanked Minister Cho for the “warm reception given to the Indian Parliamentary delegation during their visit to Seoul” and acknowledged his personal efforts to meet them.
