- GoI is strictly combating Terror Funding and Money Laundering: Union Minister
Bhopal: Governor Shri Mangubhai Patel emphasized that the 41st plenary meeting of the Eurasian Group (EAG) countries, held in Indore, will serve as a significant milestone in the fight against money laundering and terrorism financing. He called for unity among all major nations to take decisive actions in addressing these global challenges. Highlighting the collective efforts of EAG member countries, he praised their unified approach as a critical step toward combating terrorism worldwide. Governor Patel also acknowledged the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi in implementing effective measures to curb money laundering and terror funding, setting an example for global cooperation in this endeavor.
Governor said that special efforts were made for a transparent financial system in India through demonetization and digitalization. He said more special efforts need to be made to prevent illegal financial activities through modern technology. For this, the EAG Group countries need to make strong diplomatic and forceful efforts. Addressing the programme, Union Minister of State for Finance, Shri Pankaj Choudhary said that the group of Eurasian countries is important for the prevention of money laundering and terror financing. He said that the Government of India is combatting terror funding with full strength. The Black Money Act in India has been a special effort to prevent economic crime and is continuing. Special efforts have been made under GST, Digital India for a clean and transparent financial system in India. UPI digital transactions are being given special incentives. The Transformation Directorate is continuously becoming stronger in India. All the agencies of India together are taking effective and strict action against those funding terrorism, extremism, and money laundering. The EAG Group meeting will prove important in further strengthening these efforts of India.
India’s efforts are fruitful, effective, and praiseworthy
EAG Group Chairman Shri Yuri Chikanchin said India’s efforts in EAG Groups are fruitful, effective and commendable. The Group countries have discussed important decisions regarding countering terror funding efforts and money laundering during the meetings in various sessions. He said that future challenges and their prevention were also discussed in the meeting. Funding terrorism is a serious challenge in other regions of the world including Eurasian and African countries. In the EAG Group meeting, discussions were held regarding technology and better use of technology. He said that India’s efforts under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Modi are praiseworthy.
