Domestic air passenger traffic crosses 15 million-mark for first time in Nov: DGCA

New Delhi, Dec 27 (UNI) India’s domestic air passenger traffic during January-November 2025 reached at 15.26 crore as against last year, registering an annual growth of 4.26 per cent and monthly growth of 6.92 per cent, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) said on Saturday.

Monthly air passenger traffic has crossed 15 million for the first time, surpassing the previous record of 14.92 million set in December 2024, it said.

According to the data released by DGCA, a total of 15.26 crore passengers travelled by air between January and November this year, reflecting a 4.26 percent increase compared to the same period last year.

Notably, this record was set in November despite major travel-driven festivals such as Diwali and Chhath having concluded in October.

According to the data, in terms of Passenger Load Factor (PLF), Akasa Air ranked first with 93.8 percent, followed by IndiGo at 88.7 percent and SpiceJet at 87.7 percent. The Air India Group recorded a PLF of 87.5 percent, while IndiaOne Air stood at 82.7 percent.

In terms of passenger numbers, IndiGo and Akasa Air saw a decline in market share in November, while the market share of the Air India Group (Air India and Air India Express) and SpiceJet increased.

Meanwhile, IndiGo’s market share fell from 65.6 percent in October to 63.6 percent. The Air India Group’s share was 26.7 percent, Akasa Air’s 4.7 percent, and SpiceJet’s 3.7 percent.

Among the six metro cities, Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Chennai, and Kolkata, Akasa Air ranked first in on-time departures with 72.2 percent. The Air India Group had 69.1 percent on-time departures, IndiGo 69 percent, Alliance Air 59 percent, and SpiceJet 48.4 percent.

In terms of airports, Chennai Airport ranked first for on-time departures with 86.4 percent, followed by Bengaluru (78.6 percent), Hyderabad (75.5 percent), Kolkata (74.4 percent), Delhi (62.2 percent), and Mumbai (50.1 percent).
