Madrid, Dec 10 (UNI/SPUTNIK) Healthcare workers across Spain began a four-day strike on Tuesday, protesting a new draft statute from the Ministry of Health and demanding a separate regulation that takes into account the specific needs of their profession, the Spanish Confederation of Medical Trade Unions (CESM) said.
“Given the current situation, the Confederation insists that the current situation of healthcare workers requires a regulation that would significantly improve their working conditions. The organisation calls for support for the national strike scheduled for December 9, 10, 11, and 12, and for participation in actions to be held in all autonomous communities to once again demonstrate the professional community’s rejection of the draft statute proposed by the Ministry of Health,” the organisation said in a statement on Tuesday.
This is the third nationwide protest by healthcare workers in the past six months. CESM, as well as the Andalusian Medical union (SMA), has decided to continue its protests, insisting that doctors deserve not just a separate chapter in the general law that regulates the working conditions of all workers in the national health system, but their own comprehensive regulatory document.
