Disney unveils ‘The Last Man on Earth’ remake at Paris Showcase

Los Angeles, Jan 16 (UNI) Disney has come on board with a French remake of Will Forte’s hit sci-fi comedy ‘The Last Man on Earth’, with popular French star Artus set to headline the series, as per Variety.

Originally created by Forte, the Saturday Night Live alum, the new adaptation is produced by 20th Century Studios and is scheduled to premiere on Disney later this year. The project was officially unveiled during the Disney showcase held in Paris on Thursday evening.

Set in a world where a catastrophic event has wiped out humanity, the remake follows Adam, who believes he is the last man alive. After traveling across the country and coming to terms with his isolation, Adam initially revels in the freedom of solitude.

However, the joy soon gives way to deep loneliness, though he clings to the hope that another survivor, possibly even a woman, might still exist.

The original ‘The Last Man on Earth’ aired on Fox from 2015 to 2018 and received five Primetime Emmy nominations. Forte starred in the lead role, alongside Kristen Schaal and January Jones, with appearances from Jason Sudeikis and Kristen Wiig.

Artus, a well-known French stand-up comedian, recently made his feature directorial debut with A Little Something Extra, which became a major box-office success in France in 2024, earning more than USD 74 million.

The film, made on a modest budget, featured an ensemble cast of young non-professional actors with various disabilities.

While ‘Disney ’ has not revealed many additional details about the remake, the series is expected to feature an international setting and cast. The announcement was part of a broader slate of new series and films revealed by the streamer at its Paris showcase, according to Variety.
